Yiping Li, Ph.D. born in 1978, Hubei Jingzhou people, professors, Ph.D., associate dean,visiting professor of the University of North Carolina (UNC)

He is currently working at the Institute of Environmental Science and Environmental Planning and Evaluation of the Environmental Science Institute of Hohai University. Selected in 2017 Jiangsu Province, "six talent peak" high-level personnel training project, 2016 Jiangsu Province, "333" high-level personnel training project, Jiangsu Province in 2012 "blue project" young academic leaders support plan. He graduated from Hohai University with a degree in environmental engineering. He studied at the American Institute of Desert (DRI) and visiting scholar at the University of Nevada (UNLV) and the University of North Carolina (UNC). Mainly engaged in water environment system planning and evaluation, rivers and lakes eutrophication mechanism and water environment mathematical model and other aspects of research and application work. (EFDC-Explorer) technical consultant, and with the model development team chief scientist Paul Craig in Hohai University co-organized a number of EFDC development and application of training courses; long-term and the University of North Carolina Prof. Hans Paerl, an internationally renowned algae, has conducted a full range of cooperative research on the growth limiting factors and control mechanisms of loblass algae blooms. The research results are published in international journals such as Water Research. "Introduction to Environment", "Water Environment Simulation and Forecast", "Environmental Planning and Predication", "Principles and Applications of Ecology", and so on. He is currently a member of the China Society of Water Resources Jiangsu Province Environmental Branch, vice president of the China Ocean Lake Society Lake Branch, member of the China Society of Geology and Lakes and Wetland, member of the International Ocean and Lakes Association (ASLO), Global Lakes Ecosystem Observation Network (GLEON ) Members, a number of international and domestic magazine editorial board. As a member of the Environmental Protection Evaluation Center, he has been involved in the selection of national quality management model, revision of technical guidelines for surface water environmental impact assessment, preparation of teaching materials for mathematical models, and training of environmental assessment engineers. At present, as the first person in charge of the national and provincial and ministerial level natural science fund project 10, including the National Natural Science Fund project 4 (3 surface, 1 youth), Huo Yingdong education fund project (then national water environment Field only funded 2), Jiangsu Province, the Natural Science Foundation of the project, the Ministry of Education doctoral fund 1, to sub-project responsible person to assume the national "second five" major science and technology special, Ministry of Science and Technology 973 project, Special and the Ministry of Water Resources public welfare industry research projects. Has published more than 80 academic journals, of which SCI included 42 (the first author and communication author 26), EI included 25, has authorized 18 national patents, software copyright 14, published 17 monographs. Research results have won the 2013 IBM Global Sharing University Research Award (when the global water environment only reward 3), 2014 Nanjing Natural Science outstanding academic papers first prize and the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 2016 Ministry of Water Resources Yu second prize and so on.

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS
My research interest involves Limnology and Ecology of Aquatic Ecosystems. I am interested in both empirical and numerical methods of understanding processes. My goal is to improve understanding of the quantitative influences of environmental changes on Eco-Hydrologic processes as well as the cause of Eutrophication. I am especially interested in the whole process of hydrologic cycle and pollutant transport between land, surface water and groundwater. My other research interests are Nutrient Cycling, Wastewater Treatment Systems, and Lake Management. My current research focuses on the development of integrated watershed model linking hydrodynamic, water quality, and ecology.
 
Prof. Li and his group have been working on studying the mechanism of eutrophication and the aquatic environment numerical modelling for many years. They found that the burst of turbulent coherent structure at the sediment bed is the major driving force for sediment movement and resuspension in the large shallow lakes. They also illustrated the impact and mechanism of aquatic plants on flow structure and wave characteristics in rivers and lakes, and then explored the contribution of vegetation on the resistance of sediment resuspension. By using the new concept of water age and the results of nutrient limiting factors for algal growth, the group put forward more functional theories and approaches for multiple objective optimization of evaluating the effectiveness of water transfer. They developed a three-dimensional numerical model coupled with multiple water environmental variables such as the wind, wave, flow and aquatic plants, and also established the water transparency numerical model. Additionally, they figured out the key boundary conditions or initial conditions and the model parameters for a better simulation of the aquatic system. The results provided a useful support for eutrophication control in lakes.
Presently, Prof. Li has 7 research projects funded by national or provincial science foundation as P.I. He has published more than 70 academic papers and seven academic books, including 27 papers in SCI journals and 11 papers in EI journals. He has also obtained 17 national patents and 10 computer software copyrights. The findings of their research gained the IBM's Global Shared University Research Prize (only three projects funded among the globe aquatic science community) and also won the first prize in the 10th anniversary of the Natural Science Academic Paper in Nanjing. Prof. Li was sponsored by Jiangsu Qinglan Project and Excellent Talents Project in Hohai University.
